Who We Are

PartySafe Medics is a network of medical professionals committed to building a new model for nightlife safety: one that centers harm reduction, compassion, autonomy, and dignity. â€‹

Our Vision

PartySafe Medics is a network of medical professionals committed to building a new model for nightlife safety: one that centers harm reduction, compassion, autonomy, and dignity.

On a company level, that means:

  • always learning and training;

  • emphasizing harm reduction and empowering (yet informative) safer-partying education;

  • keeping up with research and cultural developments;

  • holding venues and promotions accountable by providing feedback on ways they can better uphold their responsibilities to their customers.

On a grander scale, it involves:

  • advocating for citywide regulations, including requiring access to free water and bathrooms based on guest capacity;

  • making our voices known on legislation that impacts healthcare and well-being of marginalized communities in NYC;

  • participating in local actions and mutual aid initiatives to bridge the gap between underserved communities and the clinical medical systems.

We Believe:

  • partying is an invaluable means for self-expression, community-building, and dignity-nurturing;

  • everyone deserves a safer space to gather and celebrate themselves and connect with others in their communities;

  • supporting partygoers’ health and well-being, and helping to maintain a safer space for that pursuit, is an honor and a privilege;

  • the partygoer is the ultimate authority on their own safety and well-being;

  • we as health educators must provide valuable information for self-care and health in ways that honor autonomy and center cultural respect.

Meet The Founder

Brian Hackel (he, him), event medic and founder of PartySafe Medics, is a New York State-licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), drug and alcohol counselor (CASAC), and safer drug use and overdose prevention and intervention trainer.

While originally pursuing addiction medicine, he became involved in harm reduction spaces and drug policy reform activism in 2017. He has since supervised OnPoint NYC’s Overdose Prevention Center in Washington Heights for nearly 3 years and oversaw 350+ medical interventions. He also now provides prevention counseling and safer drug use trainings at various hospitals for New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Realizing the need for comprehensive, harm-reduction-focused medical coverage at parties, Brian launched PartySafe Medics in December, 2024. Since then, PartySafe has serviced small DIY parties, weekend-long music festivals, and large venues.
